Where Can You Take the TOEFL

Popularity of TOEFL is growing around the world as more and more institutions are accepting these scores. Currently, more than 8,500 institutions accept the scores. It tests whether a candidate’s speaking, reading, writing and listening skills are efficient for joining academic institutions in English-speaking countries. In certain cases, workers are also required to take this test. Due to the increasing demand, test centers are also being increased.

Toefl is available in two formats: iBT and pbt. iBT stands for Internet-based Testing and PBT stands for Paper-based Testing. Most of the candidates prefer the iBT because PBT does not test speaking skills which are essential for participating in academic discussions and debates. Also, iBT is gradually replacing PBT. PBT is offered in those locations where iBT is not available. 30 to 40 iBT test dates will be available per year; for PBT, 6 test dates will be available per year.

Test Center Guidelines

Currently, more than 4,500 authorized test centers are spread across 165 countries. The test locations have been set up in universities, colleges, business, and technology places. All the test centers comply with the standards set by ETS regardless of their locations.

Test-takers should not be discriminated and should not be refused to enter into the test centers on the basis of their race, gender, creed and color. They should compulsorily bring their appropriate identity proof documents to the test centers. ETS does not recommend test-takers to bring their belongings to the test center even though some test centers provide storage facility to keep personal belongings. Note that test-takers must bring their identity proof document even though it can be considered as a personal item. The identity proof documents which are required to be produced differ from country to country. Test Center Administrator (TCA) is authorized to inspect and verify test-takers documents. He is also authorized to take the photograph of a test-taker. The photograph of a candidate will be taken to ensure the real candidate is appearing for the test.

The candidates get pencils and scratch papers for the rough work. The test center administrator is authorized to answer candidates test infrastructure related questions; however, he is not authorized to answer their test content related questions. A test-taker is clearly instructed to raise his or her hand in case if he or she has any question to ask during the test.

Test-takers have to systematically plan before taking the test. They should consider institutional related factors, registration related factors and date related factors while planning for the registration. Sometimes, the above mentioned factors may be interrelated. For example, if a test-taker selects a test date, the test centers of his choice may not be available on that particular date. If a test-taker selects a test center, that particular test center may not be available on that particular date. If test-takers are registering by mail, they should note that their application should reach ETS four weeks before their selected test date. So, plan diligently to save your time.
