The duration of the test is 209 minutes and it can be given in computer-based and paper & pencil-based formats.
As an aspiring candidate and with a vision to enter into the top-notch Nursing schools across USA, one must score really well in this test. However, if you are strongly determined and are willing to put in extra effort for preparing with dedication, then there shall be no looking back.
Why are Scores Important?
The test evaluates the preparedness of a student to take up Nursing as a profession in accordance to the criteria specified by the Nursing schools. It acts as a decision-making tool for the schools and therefore, it is mandatory for every student to score well. Scoring well in the test is the outcome of your effort put in during the preparatory study.
Nevertheless, it is highly advisable to understand the scoring scheme before taking the test. The scoring system gives you an opportunity to exhibit your skills and reach out to the best Nursing schools for your pre-Nursing education. The TEAS forms the stepping-stone to the foundation of your Nursing career.
TEAS Scoring System
An excellent score in TEAS will always add a lot of value to your Nursing application. A good performance in this exam justifies your potential abilities to become a successful nurse.
One prime aspect of the test is that there is no passing or failing and thereby no pre-determined pass score is administered by ATI. Every Nursing school has its own set of requirements and a minimum score point which a student must achieve. Remember to check the cut-off scores of schools to which you wish to apply.
The Scorecard Report
The TEAS gives a detailed picture of your performance. The following scores are mentioned in your scorecard:
- Adjusted individual score
- National Mean
- Program Mean
- Percentile rank – National
- Percentile rank – Program
In addition to the above, score cards also display the composite score and individual scores as mentioned above in each section of Maths, Science, Reading, English & Language usage skills.
The paramount factor of the scorecard is that it is extremely informative and descriptive with comprehensive details pertaining to the performance of the candidate. This not only helps the Nursing schools to understand the student’s strengths and weaknesses in a certain subject but also gives the student an opportunity to exhibit his/her aptitude.
Scoring Well in TEAS
The permissible acceptance of TEAS score varies from one Nursing school to the other. Every school has their own set of criteria based on which admissions are accepted. Therefore, you need to be sure of this criteria while preparing for the test. This will ideally form the base of your scorecard.
Remember, you must give equal importance to every section of the test to attain a good composite score.
Sending & Receiving Your Scorecard
ATI facilitates the sending of a student’s scorecard to the Nursing schools electronically. For an additional fee, students can also take the opportunity of requesting ATI to send the scorecard to Nursing schools other than the ones selected at the time of registering with ATI.
