Registration for IELTS
Introduction
English has become the global language of business and academics. If you are looking for career opportunities or want to do your education from universities based in English speaking countries then you need to first prove your proficiency in English. IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is one of the exams like TOEFL which is internationally recognized for testing your skills in English. It is designed to measure your skills at English language in terms of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Registration is the first step towards the test. Only after the registration is one eligible to appear for the test. Registration is a very simple process but one has to do it well in advance. This article will explain you the complete process of registering for IELTS.
IELTS Registration Centers
The test is jointly administered by University of Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Examinations, British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia. It is conducted in around 200 countries all over the world. Thus the registration centers are spread all over the world. Also every country which hosts this exam has the test centers spread over various cities. This gives you the facility to attempt this exam in the city nearest to you. The registration is done at earmarked test centers only. One can find out about these centers online. You may also refer to the official web site i.e. www.ielts.org. At the official web site of IELTS you will find an option on the main page for searching for test centers. Once you select a particular country you are shown the complete list of test centers available there along with the next test date available. It also gives you the complete address, phone/fax numbers and the e-mail address of that test center. You can contact a test center at the address mentioned or call up for booking the test.
IELTS Registration Procedure
The registration can be done by mail or online. You can not register by phone as you need to provide few details for the registration. Both the above mentioned ways of test registration are very easy. For hassle free registration, follow the following mentioned steps.
1. Handbook
Get hold of a handbook and find out the necessary information for registration. This is primarily with the aim of collecting the latest information about the registration. You can get it from the official web site or from any test registration center.
2. Test Module
The test comes in two forms. The first is called the Academic module and the second is General Training module. Both of these modules have different purposes. The Academic module is meant for those students who wish to enter a particular English speaking country for joining an academic institute for graduation or post graduation. The General Training module is meant for those who are trying for a job or want to undergo some training in a country where the test is applicable. For the registration you need to choose between these modules first as you can take only one module at a time.
3. Test Date and Location
The test is conducted on 48 days throughout the year. It is held on Saturdays and Sundays. Though it is conducted in various cities as we mentioned above, you must keep in mind that not every test center provides you with both the modules on every test date. So you must select a test center correctly. The official web site (www.ielts.org) provides the detailed information about the test dates and the module availability at every test center. Also you need to select two test dates for your registration because if for some reason you need to cancel your test date or if the test center can not accommodate you due to incapacity then your second choice should be available with the organizers to accommodate you. Your test date will be confirmed to you before one week at least of your test date. If for some reasons you can not be accommodated for the second date also then the test organizers give you an option to take another test date or refund your registration money.
