TOEFL Score

The TOEFL test is conducted for a maximum score of 300.

  • Listening: 0-30
  • Structure/Writing: 0-30
  • Reading Comprehension: 0-30
  • TOTAL SCALED SCORE: 0-300

The structure score includes the score from the essay section. The essay is rated on a scale range of 0 to 6. In the writing section the highest possible score is 6. The essay score is 1/6 of the total score.

15 days after the completion of the TOEFL test the scores are published online. This is a free service provided by the ETS. All that the student needs to check his scores online are a username and password. Once the TOEFL test is taken the scores are valid for the next 2 years to come. There is no minimum score range for the TOEFL test. A printed score card will also be sent to every individual candidate after 15 days. The score card will have each section scores with the final total scores mentioned in them. Not only scores but ETS will mail back the performance level of each individual along with the score list. The scoring pattern for TOEFL iBT and the TOEFL CBT and TOEFL PBT is different. The ETS will not only send scores to the individual candidates but also to the universities or agencies to which the candidate has applied for. These score recipients can be selected by the candidate online itself up to 22:00 one day prior the TOEFL test day. Just in case the institution you have applied for does not exist in the online list, then click on Add an unlisted recipient option and type in your institutions name. An important reminder to keep in mind is that the candidate cannot include or delete any score recipient at the test center on the TOEFL test day.
