TOEFL iBT-Internet-Based Test

The TOEFL iBT can be registered at www.toefl.org with a payment of 110$. Either a morning or an afternoon session will be allotted for the test to be taken. It takes about four hours to complete the TOEFL test. An official score report will be sent to the candidate two weeks later if the essay is typed and five weeks if the essay is handwritten.

The TOEFL test has about four sections in all. The four sections are Reading, Listening, writing and Speaking. All these four sections are to test the candidates ability to prove his ideas. Every section in the TOEFL test is a test to check on the individuals capabilities. The reading section measures the reading ability of the candidate. The listening section checks on the English understanding capacity. The Speaking session measures the ability to speak English in the University level. Finally the writing segment measures the written language capacity of the candidate.

All these four sections can be combined together to check on the overall performance of the candidate in the TOEFL exam. Not all the questions add on to the score of the candidate in the TOEFL test. Each segment has a time limit. Timers will indicate the start and stop of each section. Once the candidate comes out of a section he cannot go back to work on it. Except for the reading section where you can go back to it provided you have the prescribed time left out. A break is given half-way in the testing section.
