To understand this fact a little deeper, here are a few reasons why you should give enough importance towards the preparation for the TEAS test:
Nursing Schools Require the TEAS Test Scores for the Admission Process
The days when grade points and recommendation letters would have been good enough for nursing college admissions are gone now. As most of the applicants compete with their exceptionally high grades today, how would these colleges choose their incoming students?
In order to resolve this issue, the nursing schools and colleges have started to depend on competitive entrance examinations, which are a direct measure of the students' potential. Thus, many schools of nursing have included the TEAS test as one of their requirements for admission into their nursing programs. In fact, the nursing schools find the TEAS test for nursing as an effective means to filter the top candidates for entry into their nursing degree programs. Hence, an aspiring nursing student is expected to prepare well for this test, in order to fulfill his/her career desire.
The TEAS Test Covers Vast Subject Areas
The test consists of 170 questions that are based on four sections; namely,
- Science and
The Reading section includes tasks such as passage comprehension, paragraph comprehension and framing of inferences and conclusions.
Mathematics involves solving of basic arithmetic operations in the sub-areas of whole numbers, fraction and decimals functions, ratios and proportions and algebra.
Questions from the science part pertain to scientific concepts related to basic biology, physical sciences, anatomy and physiology, science knowledge and science reasoning.
The last section of the TEAS test for nursing is the English language usage test which tests a student's understanding of sentence structure, basic grammar and vocabulary usage.
This varied syllabus structure of the test demands an effective preparation by test takers. No matter how knowledgeable a student might be, sometimes, without adequate preparation for the test, he/she might find it difficult to answer even basic mathematical operations and simple scientific terminologies within the given time. Hence, a thorough revision of the subjects and sufficient practice for taking the test helps to score better in the actual examination.
The TEAS is Strictly a Time-Based Test
Unlike certain other exams, the TEAS test for nursing has a set time within which the test needs to be completed. In fact, each of the individual sections of the TEAS test is given a target time for completion. A total of 209 minutes is allotted to the full test, out of which, the Reading, Mathematics, Science and English sections are given 58 minutes, 51 minutes, 66 minutes and 34 minutes respectively.
Thus, test takers get approximately a little more than a minute to answer each question. This short time includes reading the question, understanding it, working out or deciding an answer and finally, marking the answer. Hence, you must be able to judge the accuracy and speed with which your mind needs to work at the time of the test. This kind of quick working capacity can, in general, come only with practice. Therefore, you must not ignore the significance of a proper preparation for the test.
The TEAS test for nursing does not include anything that you would not have learned in your high-school. Hence, it is only a re-learning and revision of your old course works, making it easier for your test preparation. It is, indeed, in your hands to utilize this opportunity and the available time for a sincere preparation for the TEAS test, in order to achieve high scores.
