What Skills Should You Have for TEAS Testing?
Good Speed: During the TEAS Test of Essential Academic Skills, you will get a little more than a minute to answer each question. Hence, be it an arithmetic problem or a passage comprehension, you need to think and work at a good speed in order to complete the test within the given time. Repeated practice of solving sample test questions reduces the time that you will have to spend for each question.
Logical Thinking Ability: One of the challenges of the TEAS test is that all the answer options appear to be closely related and confuse you about which one to choose. Also, answers to a few questions might not be directly stated in the answer choices, rather they could be in a hidden or inferential format. For instance, answers for a few questions in the passage comprehension task will not be directly provided in the choices. However, you need to use your logical thinking ability to make the right inferences and conclusions based on the information available in the passage.
Excellent Arithmetic Skills: Having a strong foundation in mathematical operations is necessary for the test. A lot of basic tasks like subtraction and multiplication will need to be used repeatedly to solve the mathematical test questions. Hence, you must be at ease to work out such tasks without using calculators. However, you need not be a born mathematician; a good and sincere practice of solving problems can make you stronger in arithmetic skills.
Strong Memory: No matter how well you prepare for the TEAS Test of Essential Academic Skills, if you are unable to remember what you have studied at the time of the test, your preparation will not prove fruitful. Especially, the Science section includes several content that need to be remembered effectively at the right time when required. Thus, having a good memory is important for taking the test.
Good Vocabulary: Though vocabulary can be learned during your test preparation, having a good vocabulary base can help you take the Reading and English sections of the test with ease.
Apart from the subject content, you need to master the above-mentioned skills in order to score high in the TEAS Test of Essential Academic Skills and thus get admission into your desired nursing program. You should keep in mind that all these skills can be sharpened by repeated practice of sample test questions.
