Importance of the Test
This test measures the basic essential skills in the domain areas described above. It helps in identifying the candidates who have the appropriate entry level skills and abilities to take up a nursing program. TEAS is a significant predictor of identifying the candidates who would be successful in a nursing program. This aspect of the test has been proved statistically and therefore, colleges identify the right candidates with the biggest potential for a nursing career based on these test scores.
An admission formula is devised by the psychometricians at the ATI which helps in deriving the best fit for the specific nursing program offered by the college. Composite scores for the four subject areas along with 13 sub-scores are released. Though you do not pass or fail in TEAS, your scores are compared against the others who have also taken up the test. Based on these results, the colleges draft the selection list.
Many good books are available from which you could prepare for the test. Moreover, free online books and practice tests are also available. If you use all these resources in the best way, you would definitely get a high TEAS score.
Good school grades, good ACT or SAT grades and recommendations alone are not enough for you to join a nursing program. Good scores are essential if your dream is to join a nursing program. The new version is a more difficult test than the previous versions. Therefore, many nursing schools have a lower cutoff score. With a good preparation, you could easily ace this assessment and join a nursing program in a college of your choice.
