Taking SAT and SAT Subject Test
SAT is a test which measures reasoning ability and mastery of a student in a particular subject. New SAT test consists of two tests SAT 1 and SAT 11. SAT 1 is SAT reasoning test and SAT 11 is SAT subject test. Duration of SAT I is 3 hrs 45 minutes and duration of each subject test is 1 hr. A student can take at the most three subject tests on any specific test date. You cannot take SAT reasoning test and subject tests on the same test date. You have to take SAT 1 and SAT 11 separately. In fact students can take different SAT subject tests separately too. Most students take the SAT reasoning test in their junior year and subject test separately in their senior year. As SAT is conducted seven times in a school year, you can take SAT subject tests on any of the test date except test date in March. You have to check from the College Board web site that which subject test is available on which test date. College counselors normally suggest to take the SAT subject test in the last of your senior year as at that time you are in touch with the related subjects. In fact registration to take SAT I and SAT II has to be done separately.
Now you know that these two tests are totally different, so you have to prepare for the two tests separately. As normally students take the two SAT tests separately at different dates, they can easily prepare for the two tests. Preparations for the subject tests should be more basic, deep and intensive. But test taking strategies for both the tests are same as both the tests are based on multiple choice questions. As SAT is a timed test, you should keep track of time while taking the exam. As marks of wrong answers are deducted in SAT, you should not try to make random guesses. No mark is subtracted if answers are left blank. You should go for easy questions first. You should not ponder over one question.

It is totally individual decision. If a student is confident about the improvement of scores, he should take the SAT again. But first you should be clear about the score requirement and previous cut off scores of your favorite college.
