College Board is the organization that administers SAT throughout various centers around the world. It is also responsible for all registrations, center allotments, payment collections etc. Therefore, all procedures related to signing up for SAT test are also done at College Board’s website www.collegeboard.org.

There are a few things that you have to be ready with, before you try signing up for SAT test. This initial planning should include your preparation schedule, a convenient date for the test, the list of colleges that you want to apply to, the courses that you would like to apply to, the subject tests you want to take, the things you want to project in your application, whether you require any financial assistance etc.

How to Sign Up
The first thing you need to do is sign up on the College Board site. This is quite simple, you have to go to the College Board site and click on “Register now”. Here are the steps you need to follow-
- When you click on “Register now”, you will be prompted to create a new account. Click on this option to proceed further.
- The creation of this account will have four steps- student information, parent information, user name/password and finish up.
- You have to fill in all details accurately because this will be involved in all further processing done through College Board. It is advisable that you have a parent or elder by your side while doing this.
- After you submit these details, your account will be created and you will have access to all tools and resources on the site, including signing up for SAT test.
Registration for SAT
There are basically four ways that you can register for SAT-
- Register online
- Register by mail
- Standby registration
- Home-schooled registration
The quickest and easiest way to register is online. This involves very simple steps for selecting dates center and subjects. Another important point is that while you register online, there is an option called “Student Search Service”. This is a free service where College Board will provide your details to Colleges on request, this way you have good chances of being called by top colleges, if you score well. All dates and centers are available on the College Board site. You can choose among them based on your personal convenience and also considering the subject tests that you want to attempt. Also note that, it is not necessary to take SAT and the subject tests on the same day, therefore you can pick different dates.
Fee Details and Waivers
All the payments done towards registration and other services should be in favor of College Board. It can be paid through cash, card or money order drawn from any bank in the United States. All the payment done in this form is non-refundable with a few exceptions in case of absentees.
The fee structure for the tests is as follows-
- SAT fee = $49
- Subject test fee = $22
- Additional fee for language test with listening = $22
- Additional fee for all other subjects = $11
Apart from this, there is an additional fee of $26 for late registration and $25 for making changes in your test centre/date/subject. Only United States’ citizens are eligible for fee waivers and it is not applicable in case of late registration. You can obtain a waiver from your counselor or any authorized agency by making your financial status clear to them.
After Signing Up
You can avail options like “Score Choice”, “Score Verification”, “Student Search Service” etc. All these are free of cost (except score verification) and act as support tools after you have taken the SAT test. It is highly recommended that you use the online registration option to complete your signing up for SAT test. It is the easiest and less prone to delays, delivery failures and other such problems.
