How Many Hours Shall SAT Testing Take

SAT Time Limit

The SAT test hours are predetermined and follow a fixed format. The total number of SAT test hours is 3 hours and 45 minutes. There are ten sections that are separately timed. Each section has a time limit within which you must answer all questions; the essay section lasts 25 minutes. The SAT test hours are calculated carefully and you need to practice pacing yourself according to the test timing. For example, the stipulated time for writing an essay is 25 minutes and you need to ensure that you do not overshoot the 25 minutes allotted to you. Thus, it is essential that you practice pacing yourself within the time limit when practicing for the test.

The SAT Test

The SAT test is a standardized test that is required to get admission into colleges for higher education. The SAT test is conducted on designated days that are scheduled much in advance to allow students to register themselves and begin their preparation well in advance. You must choose your SAT dates based on when you need to send scores to colleges. For example, some colleges accept scores for their September session, so you need to have your scores ready by then. Other colleges require you to submit your scores for their January session. The schedule is more important especially when you intend to take the SAT Subject Tests because the Subject Test syllabus is vast and you need adequate time to prepare for both SAT and the Subject Test.

SAT Schedule

The SAT schedule follows a set pattern each year and is displayed on the College Board website in advance. The dates for SAT test hours in the U.S. and in international locations are almost similar with the exception of an additional testing date in the U.S. However, the registration dates for the test differ.

All the SAT test hours are held on Saturdays, with the exception of students who request for a Sunday testing. You can opt to take a test on Sunday if you have any religious observances. However, such requests need to be made in advance and cannot be requested close to the test date. You also need to submit an explanation of your religious observance. Also, the request is only accepted if there are provisions available for a student to take the test on a Sunday. Not all locations have the Sunday testing provision. Check on the website whether Sunday testing is available at your location. You cannot appear for a test on both Saturday and Sunday.

SAT and SAT Subject Test

The SAT test and the SAT Subject Test are conducted on the same day; the SAT test hours are the same and you can appear for only one test on a particular day. In case you want to improve your score and need to take a retest, you need to plan accordingly based on the time span between receiving your scores and colleges receiving your scores.
