SAT Test Dates in 2012

SAT Test Dates in 2012 that are Ideal for You

SAT is conducted at various centers throughout the world several times a year. The decision to conduct SAT at a particular center on a particular day lies entirely with College Board i.e. it may change from year to year. There are several SAT test dates in 2012, but the choice of a date should be done with careful planning and analysis.

Does a Date Really Matter?

Of course it matters! You should not be under the impression that a date is the last thing you should worry about. Planning and preparation in advance is absolutely essential in SAT. You have to consider lots of things before you decide a date. This planning is essentially the first step you take towards your college admission.

There are several aspects like college admission deadlines, registration deadlines, preparation courses, high school schedules etc. that you have to take into account before you decide on a date to take SAT. The registration should always be the last step, after you have all the data and planning with you. Even if you do get the date wrong, there is a provision for changes but why should you get it wrong in the first place? With careful planning and scheduling your preparation you can do everything conveniently and smoothly.

Take a Decision

When you sit down to pick SAT test dates in 2012, there are several factors that come into play. This decision is very important because a lot of things will depend on the date you pick among the SAT test dates in 2012. Some of the aspects you have to consider before selecting SAT test dates in 2012 are as follows-

  • You should know which colleges you are applying to because different colleges have different deadlines. In order to meet these deadlines, you should have your score ready. Therefore, make a list of colleges and their deadlines so that you can take SAT earlier and have the scores available by the time you apply.
  • The level of your own preparation for the test is very important. If you have been preparing already then you will have a good idea whether or not you are ready to take the test and you can select SAT test dates in 2012 based on this. If you haven’t started preparing yet, take a sample test at www.collegeboard.org; this will tell you how you need to proceed.
  • Note that all payments you make towards registration and preparation material in favor of College Board are non-refundable, therefore be absolutely sure that you don’t have any other engagements on the date you choose.
  • You should be aware that not all the subject tests are offered on all dates. This is done according to the discretion of College Board. You have to look at the schedule and decide whether a particular subject test is being administered on a particular date. Also note that, it is not mandatory to take SAT and the subject tests on the same date. However, it is the way most students do it and it is also advisable because you can finish off all your tests at a time.
  • You should realize that date selection is a purely an individual decision. You should never choose a particular date just because your friends are taking SAT on that date. The speed of preparation will be different for different students, so don’t compare with others and decide a date that suits you best.
  • Keep a note of the registration deadlines from the College Board site. Generally the deadlines for SAT test dates in 2012 are about a month before the test. In case you miss the deadline you can avail the later registration option which is open for about 2-3 weeks before the test for an additional fee of $26.
  • Students generally take SAT during the spring of their junior year and the fall of their senior year. However, you should consult your tutor/teacher to get an opinion on the test time to take the test.
