SAT Results Explained

SAT is administered seven times in the USA and six times in all the other testing locations across the world. Further, SAT is administered in different months over a span of nine months. Hence, it is obvious that the SAT results for tests administered on different test dates will be released on different dates. So, it is important that you select the test date of your choice after considering the date on which the SAT results will be out.

SAT Results - What Are They?

SAT consists of three different sections which are all evaluated separately. Each section will be evaluated on a scale of 200-800 points. Furthermore, the writing section will be awarded with two sub-scores of which one sub-score is for the essay sub-section and the other one for the multiple choice sub-section. Moreover, you would receive a percentile grading in addition to the above mentioned scores. Once you receive the SAT results, you canalso request for a paid service called as the Question and Answer Service with which you can counter check the answer you have marked for a particular question and the correct answer for that question with explanations provided for each question. A score greater than or equal to 2200 (all sections combined) would help you achieve a percentile of 99 and above.

The SAT Subject Tests are administered for duration of one hour and test the students’ ability only in a particular subject of their choice. The SAT Subject Tests are also evaluated on a scale of 200-800 and the sub-scores will be evaluated on a scale of 20-80. The mean scores for SAT Subject Tests might range between 500 and 750 depending upon the subject under consideration.

SAT Results – When Will They be Given Out?

Your SAT results will be made available online approximately three weeks after you take the test. To receive your SAT results by mail, it would take six weeks approximately. So, accordingly, you will have to plan your SAT test date. Different universities and colleges have different application submission deadlines. So, considering the application submission deadlines of the college which you wish to apply for, select the test date so that the SAT results would arrive before the application submission date deadline of that particular college.

SAT Results for the Ongoing SAT

The ongoing SAT is the one being administered for the academic year 2011-2012. The first SAT test date has already expired. The second SAT test date is on November 5, 2011. The online SAT results for the October 2011 SAT test date have been released by the College Board on October 20, 2011. The online SAT results for the November test date would be released by November 22, 2011. How Are Your Scores Used?

Your SAT results will be used differently by different colleges. Some colleges demand your scores of SAT Reasoning Test and scores from at least two SAT Subject Tests. So, it depends upon the college and the course you apply for. An engineering course would require your SAT Subject Scores from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics along with your SAT Reasoning Test score. Similarly, a literature course would require scores from the related Subject Test. You must choose the SAT Subject Tests accordingly satisfying the criteria of the college as well as the course you wish to apply for.
