Support it with good reasons and examples and you will hit the bull's eye.
These are of 3 different types.
- Improving sentences,
- Improving paragraphs and
- Identifying sentence errors
Tips for Preparation
In questions based on improving sentences, you will be given a sentence written in 5 different ways. You will be required to identify the most meaningful and correct sentence. This requires knowledge of grammar. To identify the correct answer, read the sentences given and try to reason out the differences present. Look for the sentence which brings out the meaning well.
In the questions on improving paragraphs, a passage with errors will be given to you. You need to pick out the errors. SAT preparation for such questions requires a lot of practice as well as knowledge. Read the passage and pick out the parts that sound strange. This will help you to identify the errors. It is a good idea to practice sample questions. This will give you an idea of what such questions expect.
Identifying sentence errors is the type of question where some parts of the sentence will be highlighted. There could be some error in one of these highlighted parts. You need to find out the error. Also you could be given a correct sentence with highlighted parts. So read the sentence and again use reason to find out the error.
For all these questions you need to know the conventions followed in English. Thus it becomes very important in SAT preparation to read as much as you can and what ever you can. Also in writing section you should practice your writing skills. If you think that only reading would be enough, then you could be wrong. You should practice writing essays and also time yourself up to see how long you take.
