Requirements and Process

You can submit an application for the SAT test either through mail, online, or by phone. The sections below describe the process of how to apply for SAT exam.

  • Applying by Mail: Mail registrations are useful under special circumstances, such as if you are below 13 years of age, or if you want to request for a test center near where you live. You can also use mail registration if you want to request for a Sunday test or if you are an applicant from a country where there is no provision for SAT testing.
  • In order to register by mail, you must have the SAT Paper Registration Guide. This guide includes detailed information about how to apply for SAT exam. The guide also includes a registration form and a mailing envelope. You can buy the registration guide from your school counselor’s office. However, when you fill in the registration form, you will need additional information from the Official website, such as country code, codes for test centers, and so on. You can download the required PDFs from the Official “How to Register” page: http://sat.collegeboard.org/register/how-to-register. You can also use the code search tool to find out about codes for other information required in the registration form, such as subjects you want to opt for, college programs, scholarship programs, and so on.

  • Applying Online: Applying online is considered as the most prompt way to register yourself for the SAT test. It is also a secure and accurate way to complete your application. The Official SAT College Board website takes you through a systematic process of how to apply for SAT exam. In order to know how to apply for SAT exam online, you need to sign up at the website. You need to sign in using your login credentials and then register yourself. It is always best to peruse the site to know about the details to have them handy when you register for the test. You can look up the courses on offer, the test centers that are near to you, the scholarships you can apply for, and so on.
  • You can also opt for special options such as sending scores to colleges, allowing colleges to find you, and so on. Online registration has many advantages over other modes of applying for SAT exam. You can easily correct any mistakes or request for corrections to your details. The confirmation takes place earlier than other methods and you can take a printout of your admission ticket.

  • Applying by Phone: Phone application is restricted to those students who are reapplying for the SAT test because they are registered already for the test.
  • Standby Registration: You can use this option if you have not been able to register on time. Although not a very favourable method, you can use this method to register yourself for the test on the test day. You will need to arrive early at the test center with a registration form and the standby fee. However, the registration is subject to availability of seats and other resources.
