Register for PSAT
Online Registration for PSAT
Unlike SAT, PSAT is not arranged by test centers. It is administered by high schools. In order to register for PSAT, you have to meet your high school principal or the counselor. If your high school is not participating in arranging for the PSAT, you have to search for another high school according to your convenience and will have to contact its administrator for the test date, test time and test location. If you wish to search for the alternate high school that is participating in arranging for the PSAT, you can log on to the webpage https://psatordering.collegeboard.com/pno/public/search.do. Although, online registration is very fast and errors (if any) can be corrected electronically, nevertheless, the registration for this test is not done online.
The high schools can choose only one of the dates that have been planned for the PSAT. The PSAT for the year 2011 was planned to be held on October 12, 2011 and October 15, 2011. The participating high schools had chosen only one test date for administration, from among those mentioned above. The PSAT for the year 2012 will be conducted on October 17 and October 20. To get information in detail you can open the link http://professionals.collegeboard.com/testing/psat/deadlines.
The test fee for PSAT is $14. An additional fee could be charged by high schools for administration of the test.
Facilities for Taking PSAT if Missed on the Planned Date
You can plan to register for PSAT and to take this test during your sophomore year of high school. This helps you in knowing the test pattern and the types of questions that are asked in the PSAT. However, if you want to take the NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), you have to plan to take this test during the junior year (11th grade) of high school and will have to register for PSAT accordingly.
If you missed to take PSAT on the examination date and want to take the NMSQT organized by the NMSC (National Merit Scholarship Corporation), you can send request to the NMSC. The letter of request for arranging an alternate test date should not be postmarked with a date after March 1, 2012 (if you have missed the PSAT for the year 2011).
Facilities for Registration of Home-Schooled Students
Home-Schooled Students are those who do not go to school and prefer to take education at home by their parents or private tutors.
If you wish to register for PSAT, you have to contact a local high school and request the authority to arrange for the test. If you wish to search a high school in your area, you can avail this facility by visiting the link https://psatordering.collegeboard.com/pno/public/search.do
Facilities for Registration of Students Outside the United States
If you belong to a country outside the United States and desire to register for PSAT, you have to arrange for an English-speaking educator who will help you in registering for PSAT, paying the test fees and receiving the Official Student Guide (written by the PSAT College Board).
If you are a resident of the United States but plan to take the PSAT outside the country, you have to fill the following information on the answer sheet:
- US high school code
- name and address of the US high school
- name and address of the school from where you are attending the test
Facilities for Registration of Handicap Students
If you are a handicap and plan to register for PSAT, you have to submit your documents specifying your disabilities to take the PSAT without providing the necessary accommodations. You can make request for the accommodations online. Following accommodations are provided to handicap students:
- Braille Tests
- extended time
- font size of questions larger than normal
- more time for break
- Hearing Aids
Finally, if you aspire to take a high-grade exam such as PSAT, you have to prepare yourself not only for the test but also for gathering information about how to register for the PSAT. The discussion above, obviously, provides almost all the information needed for registering for the PSAT.
