PSAT Test Date

The Ideal PSAT Test Date for You

The PSAT stands for Preliminary SAT. It is also called NMSQT, the acronym for National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. This test is administered by the College Board and is co-sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). The primary reason for the administration of the PSAT is to provide scholarships to high school students for their further education.

PSAT Test Dates

Everyyear, generally, the PSAT/NMSQT is administered in the month of October. It is administered on the third Saturday of the October and on the Wednesday that precedes the third Saturday. TheCollege Board has released the PSAT test dates for the current year. They are

  • Wednesday, October 12, 2011.
  • Saturday, October 15, 2011.

The most important aspect to be noted regarding the PSAT test is that it is not administered at some chosen test centers as it is done for the SAT. You will have to attempt the PSAT/NMSQT on any of the specified PSAT test date by registering with the high school in your community. Hence, PSAT test is administered by the high schools for the students local to that particular community and not by the test centers. For this reason, you cannot register for the PSAT test date of your choice online. You must approach a high in your locale to register for the PSAT test date of your choice.

How to Pick a Test Date?

Choosing a PSAT test date is also important because, each high school is allowed to choose only one PSAT test date to administer the test. They cannot administer the PSAT on both of the test dates. Hence, you will have only one chance in one high school test center. From among the mentioned test dates, you must first select the PSAT test date on which you would wish to take the test. Then, you must approach the high schools in your community to know about the PSAT test date onwhich they would administer the test. Only then can you decide in which high school in your community you should take the test.

The Ideal PSAT Test Date for You

From among the mentioned two test dates, it is up to you to select which PSAT test date is ideal for you. The only important thing is that your SAT process like preparation and the timings must not get disturbed due to the PSAT. Furthermore, the College Board advises to start your registration process by the month of June itself. If you are a student outside of the US, then you will have to find an English-speaking educator at a nearby school to request him to administer the test for you. He will then help you to sign up, pay for the test and receive the official student guide to the PSAT/NMSQT. All this process might take some time and hence it requires that you plan your PSAT test registration procedures well ahead. Also, for you to avail the fee waiver service for the PSAT, you must be fast in providing the necessary details mentioned on the official website of the SAT.
