When and Where Can You Take PSAT in California

No matter which part of the U.S. you are in, you can find a high school that administers the PSAT test. The PSAT/NMSQT test is a standardized test for students who plan to study in college after completing high school. It prepares you for the SAT test because it inculcates focused study towards the final preparation. The test is also a qualifying test for scholarships. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NSMC) uses the PSAT scores to determine the Selection Index, based on which you will be selected, or not selected, for scholarship programs. Students from all over the country appear for the PSAT/NMSQT every year in the hope to win a scholarship for their college education.

PSAT Test Dates in California

The PSAT California test dates are the same as for the rest of the country. The PSAT California test is administered every year in October. It is administered on the third Saturday of October and the preceding Wednesday. You can check with your school when they are administering the test to see whether you will be able to take the test on the day. For example, if you have a religious observance on a Saturday and your school is testing on Saturday, you might want to check with another high school to see whether you can appear for the test on Wednesday.

The PSAT/NMSQT High School Search Tool

The PSAT California test is conducted in high schools; there are no designated test centers for the test. You can use the PSAT/NMSQT High School Search Tool to search for schools in your area that offer the PSAT California test.

You can access the PSAT/NMSQT High School Search tool on the College Board website to look up schools in your area that administer the PSAT test.

To use the PSAT/NMSQT High School Search tool, you first need to select the school code, if you know the school code. In case you do not know the school code, you can use the Advance Search option to look up a high school.

In the Advanced Search, select California as the State, and click ‘Search’. You can also search for school by entering the school name, city, or zip code to narrow your search. A list of high schools in the California region appears below the Search tool. You can scroll down to look up the participating schools. Schools that are marked with an asterisk do not administer the PSAT test. You will notice that almost all high schools in the State administer the PSAT test.

Select a school name and click the ‘Search’ button below. The information regarding the PSAT California school appears; it tells you the complete address of the school, the school code, and most importantly, the date on which the school will administer the test.

In case your school does not administer the PSAT test, you can take the test in another school in your area. However, you will need to talk the school principal or counsellor about taking the test, and to check whether they have provisions to register you for the PSAT test.

If You Are a Home-Schooled Student

You can appear for the PSAT California test even if you are a home-schooled student. Use the High School Search tool to search for schools in your area that are administering the PSAT test. Approach the school counsellor or principal to register yourself for the PSAT test.

Thus, the place of test does not matter because the PSAT test in uniform throughout the country. It hardly matters whether you appear for the test in California or Florida because the questions and the format are the same. In fact, your PSAT scores are compared with the scores of all students who have taken the PSAT, irrespective of the location. It is a national level standardized test where you need to prepare well and do your best.
