What to Expect in PSAT 2012

PSAT 2012

PSAT 2012 is a standardized test that will be taken by many high school students. PSAT 2012 will also initiate the SAT test preparation phase for many students. You can use your PSAT 2012 results to plan and prepare for the SAT test. Based on your scores in each section, you can build on your strengths and focus on your weak areas.

PSAT Dates in 2012

The PSAT 2012 test will be held in the month of October on the following days: Wednesday, October 17 or Saturday, October 20. You will need to select one of these dates to appear the PSAT test.

Test Sections

The subjects or areas that will be tested in PSAT 2012 are as follows:

    You will need to form your conclusions based on the varied information, such as suggestions and assumptions, in the passage.


    You will need to understand the root words, prefixes, and suffixes of words to derive the meaning of the given word.

  • Mathematics: The Mathematics section in PSAT 2012 will test the following areas:

    Algebra and Functions

    You will need to recognize relationships and patterns and solve problems using algebraic expressions.


    You will need to communicate your understanding of Math concepts using mathematical notations.


    You will need to connect mathematical ideas to solve problems.

    Data, Statistics and Probability

    You will need to form conclusions and answer questions on probability based on the statistical data.

    Geometry and Measurement

    You will need to understand the properties of shapes and answer questions based on them.

    Number and Operations

    You will need to understand the types of numbers, whether integers, fractions, or decimals and perform calculations.

    Problem Solving

    You will need to use strategies to answer the problems.


    You will need to form conclusions based on the information provided to answer questions.


    You will need to use representations to solve questions.

  • Writing Skills: The Writing Skills section in PSAT 2012 will test the following areas:

    Grammatical Structures

    You will need to identify and use adjectives, adverbs, and comparative structures.

    Phrases and Clauses

    You will need to manage sentence structures using sentence elements.


    You will need to understand the grammatical structure of sentences in order to improve the sentences correctly.


    You will need to use the appropriate words and understand the grammatical relationship between words.

It is important to be aware of the test sections and types of questions asked in the PSAT 2012 test so that you can prepare these topics thoroughly.
