MCAT Exam Preparation
What is MCAT?
The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). With effect from the year 2007, the MCAT is a computerized exam that is conducted 22 times in a year at MCAT test centers located across the US, Canada and many other countries. The admission committees of a majority of the medical colleges across the US and Canada utilize the MCAT scores for evaluating an applicant’s suitability for admission. The MCAT consists of the Physical Sciences section, Verbal Reasoning section, Writing Sample section and the Biological Sciences section. Each section has to be completed within a given time frame. All details regarding the MCAT test format are available in the official web site of MCAT, www.aamc.org/students/mcat/start.htm.
Why is MCAT exam preparation required?
A number of college students plan to join medical institutes on successful completion of their undergraduate studies. The medical institutions offer assorted medical college programs in medicine and health related studies. For those of you who are desirous of pursuing a career in the field of medicine and health studies, it is worth mentioning that success always comes at a price. If you want to succeed in securing admission to a desired medical college program, then the price that you will have to pay is consistent hard work. The effort that you have to put in is inevitable considering the tough competition that exists in the race for admissions to reputed medical colleges.
You will have to go through a meticulous and well planned MCAT exam preparation schedule if you want to beat your competitors by scoring high in the MCAT. You should always remember that each medical college program has a limited number of seats and all applicants for that medical college program would be working hard to get selected for admissions. As the competition is very tough, every single point counts and a detailed MCAT exam preparation plan is the only way to get high MCAT scores.
When should MCAT exam preparation start?
While carrying out your undergraduate studies you would have been able to fathom your level of understanding and knowledge of the Science subjects in addition to your command over the usage and conventions of the English language. You should accordingly plan your MCAT exam preparation timetable. Your MCAT exam preparation schedule is largely dependent on the MCAT test date. You should ideally start your MCAT exam preparation at least three months before the MCAT test date.
Now, the next question that comes to your mind is, What would be an ideal MCAT test date? The answer to this question may vary from student to student. The MCAT test date is generally chosen depending on the date of commencement of admissions to your desired medical college program and also on the estimated time required for carrying out your MCAT exam preparation. Most students select an MCAT test date in such a way that they will have time for taking a retest if required. It is advisable to take the MCAT in the year preceding the one in which the admissions to your desired medical college program are due to commence. This will give you adequate time for a retest if required and you will also have enough time for your MCAT exam preparation.
