MCAT Schedule of Testing, Dates and Locations

The MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) is a standardized test that gauges the level of different skills and abilities of the examinee. These skills will be required by a student who is planning to study medicine. The MCAT consists of multiple-choice questions that test problem-solving, critical thinking and writing skills. It also tests the candidate's knowledge of science, its concepts and principles. If you are interested in taking admission to a medical college in the USA, you will most probably need to take the MCAT and submit the score at the time of applying for admission. You are also required to take the MCAT if you are planning a career in osteopathic, podiatric, or veterinary medicine. There are very few medical schools in the USA that do not require their applicants to submit their MCAT scores at the time of admission, and so if you are interested in health care professions, you should seriously consider taking the MCAT. MCAT Locations:

The MCAT is conducted at hundreds of centers all over the world. If you want a test center in the USA or in Canada, log on to the official website, that is www.aamc.org and obtain the list of the centers you are interested in. The test locations are subject to changes at any time. You can find out if seats are available at the center of your choice, or if you have already registered for the MCAT and you want the address of your test center, you can obtain it from the official website.

For test locations outside the USA and Canada, check the official website for details. These testing sites follow a different MCAT schedule and are not the same as the ones in the USA. These are also subject to changes, hence you should check the dates and timings carefully. You can take the MCAT up to three times in one year, but you can register only for one MCAT at a time. Most law schools will accept your MCAT score, only if you have taken the test within the previous three years. If you have taken the MCAT more than three years prior to applying to a medical school, you can check that school's policy to find out whether they will accept your score or not.

Schedule of Testing:

The MCAT schedule as released by the AAMC shows that it is held on multiple dates from January to September in a year. Regular registration for the MCAT begins approximately 3 months prior to the test date and closes a few days prior to the test date. The last date for regular registration means that it is the last date for registration with the regular fee and also for any changes you may want, such as cancellations or a change in the MCAT schedule. The late registration closes just a week or so before the test date. These dates are only approximations. For the actual MCAT schedule and dates, visit www.aamc.org. The tentative release date for the score is about a month or so after the test date.
The test begins at 8:00 AM or at 1:00PM when there is only one test on a particular day. When two test administrations are planned for a single day, the timings are 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM, respectively.
The AAMC has announced that it will be changing the MCAT in 2015. If you are planning to take the MCAT in 2015, you need to check the latest information regarding the 2015 MCAT schedule from the official website.
