ISEE exams refer to the Independent School Certificate Examination tests, which are developed by the Educational Records Bureau, for testing the academic proficiency of students wanting to take admission in independent and magnet schools of the United States of America. These examinations are conducted in a number of places across the USA. The ISEE Prometric test is conducted across the world in 400 test centres. The ISEE comprises different levels of testing for students seeking admission in the 5th-12th grades. The standard of the questions of this test is compatible with the standard of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), National Council of Teacher of Mathematics (NCTM), and the International Reading Association (IRA). This examination consists of questions of the objective-pattern from different academic areas, such as, English Reading, English Writing and Mathematics.

All about the ISEE in 5 Steps

  1. The ISEE Exams Levels- The ISEE exams are available in 3 different levels for students of different grades. The Lower Level examination is taken by students who want to take admission in the 5th- 6th grades. The Middle Level examination is taken by students who want to take admission in the 7th- 8th grades. The Upper Level examination is meant for students who want to get admitted to the 10th- 12th grades.

  2. ISEE Sections- All the three levels of the ISEE exams consist of the same sections, namely, the Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Mathematics Achievement, and ISEE Essay sections.

  3. The ISEE Question Types- The question types of the ISEE exams are of the objective-type pattern, except for the Essay section, which requires the writer to write a single sample essay.

  4. The ISEE Duration- The total duration of ISEE is different for the different levels. The durations for the individual sections of the ISEE exams are as follows:

    1. Verbal Reasoning- For this section, 20 minutes are allotted in the ISEE exams of all the three Levels. In the Lower Level, 34 questions have to be answered in 20 minutes, while in the Upper and Middle Levels, 40 questions have to be answered in the same time duration.

    2. Quantitative Reasoning- This section of the ISEE exams is allotted 35 minutes in all the three levels. The Lower Level has 37 questions in this section, while the Middle and Upper Levels have 38 questions each.

    3. Reading Comprehension- This section is of 25 minutes duration in the Lower Level ISEE examination, while it is of 35 minutes duration in the Middle and Upper Level ISEE exams. The questions of the different levels are also set accordingly. The Lower Level has 25 questions to be answered, while the Middle and Upper Levels have 35 questions to be answered.

    4. Mathematics Achievement- The Lower Level of this section of the ISEE exams consists of 30 questions that need to be answered in 30 minutes. The Middle and Upper Levels of this section have to be answered in 40 minutes each, with 47 questions in each section.

    5. ISEE Essay - The student gets 30 minutes to write a sample essay, in this section.

  5. The ISEE Score- The ISEE score report consists of scaled scores obtained by the examinee, in the form of percentile ranking. The Individual Score Report (ISR) is sent by the ISEE exams administration authorities to the students and to six schools in which they want to apply for admission. The conventional method of receiving the scorecard is by post, though faster modes of obtaining the scorecards, such as, by email or phone, can be accessed by paying an additional fee, as applicable.
