The aim to keep improving the testing procedure is that this method is being recognized and accepted as the benchmark for admissions and immigrations to the above mentioned countries. The test centers are available in more than 120 countries with more than 300 test centers across the world and these numbers are growing at steady rate. The three organizations that manage the test across the globe are given below:-

Besides the academic institutions the test is used by the immigration offices of these countries to test the proficiency of English language of the candidates who wish to work as professionals especially in hospitality industry like hospitals, hotels etc. It helps the immigration officials to judge the credentials of a person to speak and convey in English which is the medium of interaction in these countries.
This test was started in 1989 and since then it has been maintaining its credentials as a genuine mode of testing the English skills of a person. It is an overall test which tests the ability of a person in all spheres of the English language i.e. reading, writing, speaking and listening. It is unlike many other tests which tests only the reading and writing capabilities of a person. Secondly this test is broadly divided into two formats to judge a person's capabilities according to the job a person wants to pursue in that country. The format is different for a student who wants to study and a professional who wants to work. Thus, the test is as per the skills required in the area of interest.
The test consists of four different sections. These sections are reading, writing, listening and speaking. However, there are two different formats as per the area of interest of the candidate.
- Academic IELTS testing
- General Training IELTS testing
You can choose modules according to your requirements. It depends on whether you are taking the test for further studies in colleges and universities of different countries or for a job overseas. The test for both the formats has same listening and speaking sections but different reading and writing sections as part of the test.
IELTS Testing in Academic Module
For students who desire to take admission in undergraduate courses or post graduate courses in the countries where this test is recognized, it is mandatory for them to go through the process of testing in academic module. Academic IELTS testing tests whether you are comfortable with the complex academic English language skills.
You will be given forty minutes for writing in the academic module of test. Questions in the test will be in the form of statements and your task will be to create a logical argument about the given statement. You have to write at least two hundred and fifty words for the given statement. Academic IELTS testing in the writing section tests your grammar and spellings and therefore you have to be very careful while writing. This section will evaluate your strategy so support your views with valuable logical explanations.
IELTS Testing in General Training Module
The general training module is intended for those who are planning to undertake non-academic training/work or for those who are planning to immigrate to these countries. The general training is to test how good the candidate is with the basics of English language which is the only medium of instruction or interaction in these institutes.
