The IELTS is the International English Language Testing System that tests a candidate's level of proficiency in the English Language. It is a standardized test and is reputed to be one of the best ways an institution or an organization can find out the English language abilities of their applicants. Today, more than 6000 institutions all over the world rely on the IELTS to gauge the level of command over the English language of their students. In this article we discuss the IELTS, about the results and how to get the IELTS result online.
The two versions of the IELTS are Academic and General Training. They differ in the Reading and Writing sections but the two versions have the same Listening and Speaking tests. You should find out which version you need to take from the institution you are sending your application to, before choosing one of the two versions of the IELTS. As a general rule however, you need to take the Academic version of the IELTS if you are applying as a student to an institution in an English-speaking nation. You need to take the General Training version of the test if you want work experience in an English-speaking nation.

What Is Given In Your IELTS Result Form?
You will receive your results as the IELTS Test Report form. It will contain your score in the form of Band Scale for each module of the test as well as the overall Band Scale. The Test Report Form will also specify which version of the test you had taken, that is, the Academic or the General Training. It will include your photograph and your personal information such as your date of birth, nationality and first language. Your result will be the same whether you get a copy through the regular post or through the IELTS result online service. Only one copy of the IELTS Test Report Form will be sent to you. It is not possible to make copies of the form and no replacement will be given if you lose it. However, there is a facility by which you can have up to five free copies of your IELTS result sent directly to the institutions you are applying to. Extra copies will be sent if you pay an administration fee. The test result will be valid for a two year period.
The Meaning of the Band Scale:
Your IELTS result will be shown as a Band Scale for each module of the test, ranging from 1 to 9 with half bands represented as well (example 8, 8.5, 9, etc). The overall score will be represented in a similar manner. Band zero indicates that the test was not attempted. Band 1 is the lowest score and it is representative of a candidate's inability to use the English language, while Band 9 is the highest possible score. It represents a candidate's complete command over English. These scores do not represent pass or fail scores. The score required by an institution varies. You need to find out from the individual institutions you are applying to about their particular requirements from the candidates.
