Now days, English is referred as a global language. Communicating in English is a prerequisite for students of almost all international education institutes as well as professionals at international levels. If you aim to study abroad in English speaking countries or if you are looking for a job opportunity in these countries then you have to take IELTS. IELTS is a test of your English language proficiency. IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System and it is taken by candidates who know English as a second language. Online preparation is one of the easiest ways to prepare for this test. Online registration is the most convenient method of registration for this test. This article will guide you in making the best use of an online facility for the test.
IELTS is designed to test your skills at reading, writing, listening and speaking in English. It is organized and conducted jointly by University of Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Examinations, British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia. It is mandatory for immigration purposes and for candidates who wish to enter English speaking countries for jobs or studies. Around seven hundred thousand people all around the world take this test at 300 test centers in 120 countries every year.
The test has two modules, Academic and General Training. The purpose of both the modules is different. The Academic module is for those who want to study abroad and the General Training module is taken by those who want to immigrate or seek job opportunities in English speaking countries. Since these modules are for different purposes; you need to explicitly select one of them while registering. More information about the test can be found out from any IELTS web site like www.ielts.org.
IELTS Online Registration
Online registration is the most convenient and the fastest way of registering for the test. You need a PC with an internet access to register yourself. You just need to log on to the official web site of the test that is responsible for test centers in your country. For example www.ieltsindia.com is the official web site of the test for candidates interested in taking the exam in India. The addresses of these web sites can be found out from the official web site of the test i.e. www.ielts.org. Here you need to select the country of your interest and you will be given the details of the test centers available along with their official web sites. Once you have logged on to one of these web sites you can select an Apply on-line option or an equivalent option for online registration. Here you will see the registration form. You need to fill in all the required information correctly. For proof of address you need to enter the serial number of your passport or national identity card. Once you fill in all the details you are asked to select the mode of payment for the registration fees. You can use your Master or Visa card for this. As soon as your online test payments are verified you get an acknowledgement of your registration. This means you are officially registered for the test at the test center of your choice. You are also sent this confirmation at your e-mail id or by an SMS alert on your mobile phone if you have provided these details during registration. This way your online IELTS registration process finishes.
For confirmation of your proof of identity you need to bring two copies of your recent passport size photographs to the test center. You are also required to bring the photocopies of first three pages of your passport. If you fail to bring these documents, you will not be allowed to take the test.
If you do not wish to register online, you can download the registration form from IELTS web site and send it to the exam center by mail or courier.
The IELTS Online Test
The test can be taken in an online format also. It is called CB (Computer Based) IELTS. In CB IELTS, instead of writing on an answer sheet, you have to select or fill in your answers at a given place on a computer screen. One needs to first adjust to this kind of test format. The online test is not available at every test center. Therefore, during registration you must confirm the availability of the online IELTS option at the test center of your choice. One more thing to note here is that the CB IELTS may not be available for both the modules of the exam. Generally, it is available only for Academic module. One must confirm this before applying for the online test of IELTS.
