Your Options If You Score 6 in IELTS
Your score for IELTS test is determined based on your performance. The IELTS raw scores will be converted into IELTS band scores using a unique 9-band system. The IELTS band score can range from numbers one to nine, or it can be half scores 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 6.5, 7.5 and 8.5.
The internationally recognizable unique 9-band system is designed in such a way to categorize your English proficiency into different levels. Each level represents a band score that ranges from one to nine. The topmost band score of nine and the above-average band scores of seven and eight will provide you opportunities to enter in pre-university or university courses or organizations in almost all the English-speaking countries, or to immigrate to almost all the English-speaking countries. IELTS 6.0 is a competent or average score that can provide opportunities in some English-speaking countries.

The average IELTS score requirement for education/ work in an English-speaking country varies based on the University/ organization for which you want to apply. Generally, IELTS 6.0 is the average band score requirement required by many Universities and organizations. Also, an IELTS band score of 6.0 is the average band score requirement for the English-speaking countries, such as Australia, U.K and New Zealand.

IELTS 6.0 signifies that you are a competent and capable user of English language. You must be aware that each university or organization sets its own average IELTS band score for admission. Most universities in the UK, Australia, USA and New Zealand accept an average IELTS band score of 6.0.
- When you have a band score of 6.0 in the IELTS test, you can apply to the education/ employment program in the universities or organizations that accept this average score.
- Some universities or organizations in English-speaking countries may accept this score with conditional admission. In this case, you will have to take ESL classes or you will have to take a re-test of IELTS to get a band score that is greater than 6.0.
- You can take another IELTS test if you are not satisfied with the IELTS band score of 6.0 or if you find difficulty in getting admission in any of the English-speaking countries of your choice.
IELTS 6.0 is generally the average requirement to get admission in some of the graduate schools or universities in a few English-speaking countries, such as UK, Australia and New Zealand. Some Universities may offer conditional admission for an IELTS band score of 6.0. Even for employment or immigration purposes, only a few of the English-speaking countries accept an average band score of IELTS 6.0.
It is better to get at least an average band score of 6.0 in each sub-test of IELTS. This will definitely help you get an unconditional admission in one of the good universities or organizations in most of the English-speaking countries. An unconditional admission is very important to get qualified for any scholarship or financial aid for your education in an English-speaking country.
