Writing an essay for IELTS is one of the most important tasks on which you must concentrate a lot during your preparation. You must effectively use the given time to frame an essay for IELTS and present it neatly with supportive argument.
The following is a sample essay for IELTS and the topic has been selected from the Cambridge EOSL IELTS practice tests. Read it thoroughly and grasp the important aspects of writing a fine essay for IELTS.
Today, the high sales of popular consumer goods reflect the power of advertising and not the real needs of the society in which they are sold.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Advertising and marketing a product has become very essential in the present day and age. Since the past two decades, advertising has become a more prominent factor that has influenced the sales of almost all the companies in the world. This essay expresses my opinion in relation to the role of advertising and promotional activities in increasing the sales of any popular consumer goods.
There is no doubt that you require promotion when you launch a new product or offer in order to increase your presence over the consumer market. Every product has its own importance and need for a consumer. It depends upon the choice and the requirement of a consumer that he/she buys a product. So, in a way, the sales of the consumer goods must reflect the needs of the society. This statement is obviously in contrast to the real happenings. I agree that today, the high sales of goods reflect the power of artistic advertising and not the real need.
Consider the famous brand of the world, the coke. Coke has, since its existence, been one of the leading companies that revolutionized the corporate sector and the power of advertising. If we clearly observe the success of Coke, the company has relied upon an advertising strategy that hardly propagates the real need of Coke to the society.
As a matter of fact, the commercials and the promotional activities of Coke influence the customers in an artistic way to lure them to purchase the product. For instance, the Coca Cola Company introduced a vending machine that gave two cokes for the price of one on friendship day in the year 2011. The machine was so high that you require someone to lift you up to drop your coin. Surprisingly, the sales went up by 1075%, as stated by the company. Further, the idea received many accolades. Here, the product was the same old one but the sales went up high only due to creating an impression with strategic promotional activity.
So, in brief, I feel that advertising has become the most important aspect in selling a product. It needs to create an impression upon the consumers rather than helping them know the real need of the product to the society.
