At the same time, you should also check which type of the test is available at the center of your choice, whether it is the computer-based or the paper-based test. You can use the following link to get this information: http://www.ets.org/bin/getprogram.cgi?test=gre.
Step 2: Some More Decisions:
This is not available under certain conditions. These are:
- If you want to take the test under accommodated conditions, due to a disability or other health-related reasons, then you are not permitted to register online for the test.
- If you want to apply for a fee reduction.
- If you want to take the test on a Monday, due to religious convictions that do not permit you take the test on a Saturday.
- If a seat was not available on the day of the test that you prefer, and you are planning to attempt standby testing.
- If you want to take the test in Nigeria.
If any of the above conditions is true for you, then you will have to register by a different method. You can use the following link to find out more about how to register for the GRE: http://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/register.
Step 3: Select the Identification You Plan to Use:
You need to make sure that the form of identification that you plan to use on the day of the test will be accepted. The identification should contain your photograph. Most people use internationally accepted identification such as passports. If you are in doubt about whether your identification will be accepted or not, you can contact ETS and enquire about it.
Step 4: Select the Mode of Payment:
For making the payment for registration, certain credit and debit cards are accepted by ETS. You can visit www.ets.org a little before you begin the registration process, and check which cards are accepted and which are not. Make arrangements for an accepted mode of payment.
Step 5: Create a 'My GRE Account':
For test registration online, you need to have an online GRE account with the ETS. This is the 'My GRE Account'. To create this, you need to visit the official website, or use the link given at the end of this paragraph. You have to provide the information asked for, and an account will be created for you. The link that you can use for this is: https://mygre.ets.org/greweb/login/login.jsp?WT.ac=gre_revised_r_btn.
Step 6: Register for the GRE:
During the process, you need to be careful about the name that you provide. The name that you give at the time of registration for the test, must be exactly the same as that on your identification. There cannot be any discrepancy between the two. This includes the order of your first and last names, the spaces between the names and variations in spellings. If the name on your identification is not the same as the one that you registered with, you will not be permitted to take the test.
