GMAT QUESTIONS

GMAT i.e. Graduate Management Admission Test is a computer based exam and is called GMAT CAT where CAT is an abbreviation for computer adaptive test. GMAT is a mandatory exam for admission in US schools of MBA program. GMAT is a standardized exam in English to assess students' performance academically for the MBA program. GMAT CAT questions adapts their level according to the answer. So, it is very important to start attempting the questions with a cool attitude. Initially questions will be of mixed difficulty level and you need to concentrate more on them. Questions in analytical writing section test how well you can present your views on a given topic and how well you can analyze an argument. Questions in quantitative section judges your ability in mathematics based on algebra, arithmetic, geometry, and data analysis. Questions in verbal section judges how well you can comprehend written material in English and tests your knowledge on grammar, reasoning and interpretation skills in English. GMAT test gives a fair picture of an applicant's analytical and verbal skills which he should have developed over a long period of time during his education and which is a prerequisite for performing well in an MBA program. It takes 3-1/2 hrs to complete.



What types of question comes in GMAT test?

Analytical writing

It consists of two essays. The purpose of this essay section is to judge you better the essays give an insight into your way of understanding, thinking, reasoning and expressing your ideas in a presentable way .you have to scratch your brain and get to the depth of the matter in order to write well . The essays will be on two topics as given below:

  • Analysis of an issue.
  • Analysis of an argument.

Analysis of an issue. In this you should be able to show your skills of communicating your views in a logical manner. You have to support your views with reasons and examples drawn from your personal experiences/ observations. Examiner will prefer well justified use of sentence structure, vocabulary phrases, idioms etc. The examiner can ignore spellings, punctuation and grammar. He will be more interested in content and the systematic presentation of your thoughts. All this has to be written in an essay format. Topics for the essay under this section will be of general interest and prior knowledge is required.

Directions :- You have to read the statement given to you very carefully and the instructions that follow the statement. After analyzing the statement and instructions you have to type your essay on a word processor. You have to frame and express all your views within the time limit given i.e. 30 minutes. Topics are generic in nature but require good reasoning and knowledge.

Analysis of an argument. In this you should be able to show your skills by identifying important features of an argument and to analyze and critique the argument in a logical and well-reasoned manner. The criticisms should be clear and distinct .your criticisms should be supported with enough evidence, reasons, and examples. You will be tested for your command over the language, your grammar and sentence structuring of written English in an essay format. The time limit is 30 minutes for this essay also.

Directions : - In this you have to write the critique of the argument. You should not support or present your own views. You can think and analyze what changes in the argument would make it more logical. Before writing you should organize your ideas, understand the reasoning behind an argument and develop them fully.

Each essay will be scored between 0 to 6. In which 0 will be consider un scorable , and 6 as outstanding

Quantitative Section. This section contains 37 multiple-choice questions. The questions are of two types:-

  • Problem Solving.
  • Data Sufficiency.

This sections contains question with basic mathematics skills understanding of elementary concepts, and the ability to reason quantitatively

Problem solving. In this section questions will be related to basic math skills in the form of multiple choice questions. These questions will cover basic areas of Arithmetic, Algebra and Geometry. Some of the questions are word problems in which you have to reason with a common scenario.

Data sufficiency. In this section the questions assess your ability to analyze a problem. Each question will be having two statements numbered 1 and 2. You have to select an answer in terms of choices given for finding a relevant and sufficient solution you have to think logically and assess the information. You have to complete all 37 questions within the time given i.e. 75 minutes. Your score for quantitative questions will be 0 to 60 Try to learn as many short cuts method you can it will make a lot of difference in your time

Directions: - These questions basically test the intelligence and the capability of the candidate to make correct decision under pressure.

Verbal section This section contains 41 questions. The questions are of three types:-

  • 15 questions on sentence correction.
  • 15 questions on reading comprehension.
  • 11 questions on critical reasoning.
