GMAT 700

How Important is a High GMAT Score

The GMAT scores are important for a successful application to business schools anywhere in the world. Competition in business schools is fierce and every point scored can make a difference. Some business schools do not accept applications with a low GMAT score at all. Over the decade, GMAT scores have witnessed a steady increase from an average of GMAT 610 to GMAT 700. Students from Asian countries score higher than their western counterparts thereby raising the bar for applicants from Asian countries. It is, therefore, imperative to score over GMAT 700 for an applicant to be accepted.

The GMAT score, though important, is not the sole criteria for admissions to business schools. Business schools look at several other factors such as diversity, remarkable achievements of the applicant, before deciding on an application. However, securing a high score of over GMAT 700 definitely maximizes the chances for a successful application. A high score projects your proficiency in verbal and analytical skills necessary to perform in the management program. The GMAT score reflects how well you can perform in academics as a management student.

A high GMAT 700 score or more becomes significantly important when applying to top business schools. An extra point can give your application an edge over others. However, if not applying to a ranked business school, a lower GMAT score may be acceptable. It is always better to choose the business program best suited to your career rather than blindly applying to top business schools.
