The CSET or the California Subject Examinations for Teachers is a compulsory test that you must take up if you want to become a teacher in California. phone-in registration mode. The online mode is available
during the regular, late and emergency periods and
the phone-in registration mode is available during the
late and emergency periods alone.

The fee can be paid by credit, debit or check card

Testing dates

The dates for the test are available all through the year.
However, the test is not available on Sundays,
public holidays and the period between
November 25th and December 1st.

Scoring of the test

The multiple-choice questions are scored electronically
and the constructed-response type questions are evaluated
by qualified educators. The scores based on the number of
correct responses and the scores attained in the constructed-response
type questions are termed the raw scores.
The CSET subtest 3 is assigned a weight and this weight is
multiplied with the raw score to arrive at the scaled score.
The scaled score range between 200 and 300

Passing scores

This is a pass or fail test and you must attain 220 in the
scaled score to pass the test

For becoming a teacher in an elementary school in California, you have to pass the CSET: Multiple Subjects category. You can either pass all the subtests in one attempt or pass the individual subtests separately. Since the CSET subtest 3 is a part of CSET: Multiple Subjects, you must pass this subtest to be eligible to teach at the elementary school level.
