Details of Test Dates for the CHSPE

When Can You Take the CHSPE?

The California High School Proficiency Exam, also known as the CHSPE, is the undertaking of the state of California. It is administered by the Sacramento County Office of Education under a contract with the state. This exam tests the proficiency of tenth grade students who want to exit early. The proficiency is tested in areas of Mathematics and Language Arts. The entire test lasts for three and a half hours and upon successful completion of the test, a student is issued a Certificate of Proficiency. Using this certificate and the verified permission of his or her parents or guardians in front of the school principal or vice-principal, the student can exit his or her tenth grade earlier than usual. This article will provide you important information on the test dates for this exam that you need to keep in mind.

Date 1: October 20, 2012

This was the first date for the 2012-13 academic year. The regular registration deadline was 21st September, 2012 and the late registration deadline was 5th October, 2012. The results of the CHSPE taken on this date were declared on 27th November, 2012.

Date 2: March 16, 2013

This was the second of the three dates for the academic year 2012-13. The regular registration deadline was 15th February, 2013 while the late registration deadline was 1st March, 2013. Additionally, there was also an emergency registration date on 12th March, 2013. The results of this test date will be mailed on 19th April, 2013.

Date 3: June 15, 2013

This is the third and the last date for the academic year 2012-13. The registration deadline for this particular test date is 17th May, 2013. You can also register for the test on this date before on 31st May, 2013. In case of an emergency, there is one more date open: the emergency registration deadline date on 11th June, 2013. The results of this particular test will be mailed to the candidates on 19th July, 2013.

Different Deadlines and the Corresponding Fees

For each of three dates above mentioned, there are three registration deadlines. Each deadline carries its own non-refundable fee. If you have registered before the regular deadline ends, you need to pay only$110. For each of the three scheduled date, if you surpass the regular deadline and instead register before the late registration deadline, then you will have to pay $13. In case you do not register even before the late registration deadline, you can do so by the emergency registration deadline. For this, you will have to pay 160$.

It is important to note here that in case you want to cancel the test, you need to do so before the regular registration deadline expires. Even in such a case, only a partial refund of the money is given.

The examinations are always scheduled for Saturday mornings. In case of religious reasons, the date for a candidate may be shifted to Sunday morning. However, for this adjustment, the candidate needs to furnish a written proof from a clergy member providing reasons behind the need for change of the day of the test. However, this adjustment is not permitted in case the candidate is registering using the emergency deadline date.

One more important piece of information that you need regarding the CHSPE is how you can change the date of testing. You can do so by completing and submitting the Change of Test Date Request Form, which is available on the official website (www.CHSPE.net). The deadline for doing so without making any additional payment is 17th May, 2013 for the upcoming test. If you are later than this date, the change of date will cost you $50.

Hence, it can be concluded that the test dates for CHSPE should not be ignored whether it is an issue of registration or of changing the test dates.
