Statewide ACT Testing in Illinois

In addition to the national administration of ACT, the State of Illinois also offers a statewide ACT testing program for the benefit of all eligible junior students from state public schools. As in many other US states and districts, these statewide ACT test administrations in Illinois are done on a contract basis, and the statewide ACT test dates in Illinois are decided between ACT Inc., and the state. Here are some important features of statewide ACT testing in Illinois:

  • The test is administered thrice (including one accommodated testing) every spring as a component of the Prairie State Achievement Examination (PSAE). For more information in PSAE, visit the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) website: http://www.isbe.net/assessment/psae.htm.
  • The statewide ACT testing program in Illinois is a must for all eligible public school 11th grade students. Registrations are done through the schools.
  • The ACT test is scheduled on day 1 of the PSAE administration. You can find the test schedule online at: http://www.isbe.net/assessment/psae.htm.
  • The statewide ACT test administrations are conducted over weekdays.
  • The scores are usually reported within 3-8 weeks of the test administration.

  • The PSAE test is conducted over two days and there are two administration dates for each of the tests-Initial test date and Makeup test date. Those who are not present during the initial test dates may take the test on the makeup test dates available after two weeks.
  • Accommodated testing is provided for those with special requirements during the two weeks Accommodation Test window. This is done separately, and not as part of the initial or makeup test date schedules. You can find the eligibility criteria and related documentation online at the ISBE website: http://www.isbe.net/assessment/pdfs/2012/IEP_504_guidance.pdf; http://www.isbe.net/assessment/psae.htm.
